Talus Fractures in Snowboarders: A Case Series

چکیده
Fractures of the lateral process talus have been associated with snowboarding, so much that they earned nickname “snowboarder’s ankle”; these typically occur relatively low-energy injuries when compared fractures talar head, neck, and body. We observed snowboarding portends a higher risk skiing can include energy injury patterns. This study describes series body caused by their treatment, outcomes. A retrospective chart review was performed on all surgical cases collected from 2007 to 2012 body, or sustained while snowboarding. Radiographs were reviewed characterized. Questionnaires, including Foot Ankle Disability Index (FADI), mailed patients. The pre-operative reports, treatments, outcomes evaluated. Nine patients identified injury. One patient an isolated head fracture, three neck fractures, one had two fractures. Two combination injuries. At 2.5 years mean follow-up (range 6 months 5 years), none developed avascular necrosis, nonunion/malunion, required subsequent surgery. FADI scores indicated good excellent results post-operatively.

We investigated the clinical and radiological outcome after unilateral fracture of the lateral process of the talus in 23 snowboarders with a mean follow-up of 3.5 years (12 to 76 months). In this consecutive cohort study both operative and non-operative cases were considered. The mean American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society hindfoot score was 94 (82 to 100). The non-operative group of seve...

Background: Hypertrichosis refers to the excessive and abnormal growth of hair of vellus, independent of the effects of androgen. Since acquired local hypertrichosis can be unilaterally detected in the casted limb, it causes asymmetry and problems with beauty. Therefore, evaluation of the risk factors of developing after casting is necessary in order to alleviate the concerns of patients, timel...

Transchondral fracture, osteochondral fracture, osteochondritis or dome fracture are all terms used to describe similar lesions ofthe talus. Although this lesion has been extensively studied (Berndt and Harty 1959; Mukherjee and Young 1973; Yvars 1976; Alexander and Lichtman 1980; Canale and Belding 1980; O’Farrell and Costello 1982), several questions of clinical relevance remain unanswered, s...
متن کاملTalus fractures: evaluation and treatment.
Fractures of the talus are uncommon. The relative infrequency of these injuries in part accounts for the lack of useful and objective data to guide treatment. The integrity of the talus is critical to normal function of the ankle, subtalar, and transverse tarsal joints. Injuries to the head, neck, or body of the talus can interfere with normal coupled motion of these joints and result in perman...
